Commonly known as heat rash.
It is very common in children but can also occur in adults. Occurs due to blockage of sweat glands resulting into trapped sweat in the skin. Commonly occur in hot and humid environments, if your child has fever, occlusion with heavy dressing especially nonabsorbent fabric.
There are different types:
Miliaria crystallina: Occurs in neonates (<2 weeks old) and this is because their sweat glands are immature, still adapting and developing (Learning how to react to varying temperatures) and any occlusion can easily cause the heat rash. Blockage occurs in the very superficial layer of the skin. Presents as small fluid filled (clear fluid) rash. Common areas affected: face, neck, upper trunk
Miliaria rubra: Blockage occurs slightly deeper in the skin within the epidermis. Most common type of heat rash and appears as red rashes (Papules) and vesicles.
Miliaria Pustulosa: Form of miliaria rubra but with pustules (rash filled with white fluid). Could be indicative of a bacterial infection.
: Occurs in deeper layers of skin (Dermal epidermal junction). Presents as large firm flesh-colored papules (Rash).
Incase you as a Parent or guardian notices fever, persistent rash not resolving on its own, change of the fluid from clear to white, discomfort in the child or you are not sure that what your child is experiencing is a heat rash, please visit your Pediatric Dermatologist for a review.
